Dharamshala is the land of awesome peaks, of Tibetan monasteries, and of meandering streams cascading down the majestic Dhauladhar range.
It is a magnificent hill resort with the Dhauladhar Himalayas in the  background. It is situated in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It lies on a spur of the Dhauladhar range, the Pir Panjal region of the Outer Himalayas; and commands majestic views of the mighty Dhauladhar ranges above, and the Kangra Valley below.

It consists of two distinct regions - the upper part  is McLeodGanj, often called Little Lhasa, at 1,770m this also houses the residence of the Dalai Lama and  is a settlement of Tibetan Buddhists. The lower Dharamsala has administrative offices, schools etc. There are  a number  of  picnic spots near Dharamshala;  the  waterfall at Bhagsunath is within walking distance and nearby is the Dal Lake and immediately  above  Upper Dharamshala  is Dharmkot Hill a favorite picnic spot for visitors.

Easy excursions are possible, including visits to Kangra Fort, Dharamsala and Mcleodganj, the seat of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Dada Siba and the river Beas.

23 km from Dalhousie, the grassy meadow of Khajjiar has a circumference of about 5 km and is ringed by thick forests of deodars. The snow line rests above these woods. There are beautiful walks here and the place is a haven of peace, though during the day, the main 'ground' is taken over by bustling day-tourist. Khajjiar is connected by road from Dalhousie and Chamba. Taxis and buses are available at these places.
